A Challenge Over Drinks

Half of the first page shows Zemo standing over a still Falcon. The other side of the page shows the Red Skull standing over the body of the Black Panther.

The story opens with Baron Zemo II and the Red Skull sitting in a lounge. They are having a friendly discussion.

"My scheme involving the Thunderbolts came to a very disappointing end. Fortunately, the Fixer had provided me with a teleportation device or I would be dead right now. What have you been up to lately?" Zemo asks.

"My friend. I have been very busy of late. I have had to work many extra hours to keep the conflicts in various countries brewing."

"That is a tough job, but it is necessary. Why should we waste our own funds killing those of inferior stock, when they are so willing to kill themselves."

The Red Skull takes a sip from his drink and smiles. "This is why I enjoy your company more than your father's. While I see so much of your father in you, you have a worldview that was beyond your father's capabilities."

"My father was a great man. It is too bad he is unable to enjoy the successes we have both had in keeping our race in its rightful place."

"We have both profited greatly from the arms we sell to those violent savages. It is amazing how hard we worked to keep the wars raging in Bosnia and Ethiopia in recent years. My attempts to dismantle the peace process in Israel almost failed. "

"I find it quite amusing that you used money stolen from the Jews during World War II to make sure that they will know no peace in their new homeland." Zemo says.

The Red Skull starts to laugh. "That is ironic, isn't it."

"Zemo, you do know that when one of us finally succeeds in gaining their rightful place, we will end up fighting each other. Neither one of us will be able to follow the other. Don't take it personally if during your greatest victory you see me across the battlefield."

"I will look forward to finally fighting against an opponent who is worthy of my competition."

Zemo and Skull look at each other with great respect.

The conversation continues on about various topics. Most deal with how the Red Skull and Zemo have been able to gain their money through arms sales and through their dealings with the government. They are especially proud of the Red Skull's ability to get the CIA to sell drugs to the African American population in California.

As the discussion dies down, Zemo turns to the Red Skull and says, "I was thinking about the day when we would be opponents in battle and thought it might be nice to play a little game."

"What did you have in mind?"

"I was thinking that we could see who could kill a so-called superhero first. The contest will have two goals. The first will obviously be the benefit of ridding the world of a hero. The second will be that the heroes must be of inferior stock. I was thinking that one of us could kill the Falcon and the other could kill the Black Panther."

"Ah, yes. That is a splendid idea Zemo. The Black Panther is in town for a meeting at the UN"

"If you don't mind, I would like to kill the Falcon for his part in the disfigurement of my face."

"No problem, friend Zemo. Good hunting"

The scene shifts to the Falcon flying away from Avengers mansion. He has just had a conversation with Captain America about making an appearance in one of the neighborhoods that Sam works in. While he is flying he is not paying attention. From the top of a building that he is flying near, a dark figure fires a laser blast. The laser hits the Falcon and makes him crash land on a nearby building. Zemo then jumps from the one building to the other one and proceeds to pummel the Falcon to near death.

The Black Panther is also leaving the mansion after meeting with Bill Foster and Scott Lang. about some research they were doing for Hank Pym (who is busy in the Avengers book. You have been reading those haven't you? - The Mighty A-Van -Ger). As he is leaving he notices someone following him. T'Challa turns to face the person following him when the Red Skull reveals his identity and pulls a gun. The Panther leaps to attack him. The Skull fires his weapon and ensures the Panther in a net. The net is sending electro-shocks into the Panther. The Skull begins to gloat.

"Did you really think you could beat me. At this moment Zemo is about to kill your pathetic friend the Falcon. Now I am going to kill you, you lousy n.."

BAM!!!

A giant fist hits the Red Skull square in the face. Bill Foster is standing there at fifteen feet in height. He grabs the net off of the Black Panther and asks him if he is ok. The Panther in great pain responds that he is fine but will need time to recover. Bill Foster then picks up the stunned form of the Red Skull and lifts him into the air.

"Unhand me you monster!!!!" the Skull screams.

"You want me to let go of you, fine. Here you go!"

Giant Man then throws Red Skull out towards the ocean. In midair the Skull disappears.

"We have to get to the Falcon."

"Don't worry T'Challa. Scott Lang. heard the Skull's little speech and ran off to help him. Hopefully he won't be too late. We should head over there to see if he needs any help, if you are up to it?"

We now switch to Zemo and the Falcon. The Falcon is lying face down on the roof of the building. Zemo is playfully kicking the Falcon while he is lying there in pain. Blood is coming out of Sam's mouth due to the internal bleeding.

"Now I will finish you off. I wanted to show you how superior we are. Now that you have had your lesson in eugenics, I shall make this as painful as possible."

At that very moment, Scott Lang. grows from ant size to human size as he hits Zemo. The force of the blow knocks Zemo away from the Falcon.

"You won't stop me. You are unfit for Avengers' membership and therefore you will offer me no competition."

Ants fly from everywhere and surround Zemo. Zemo is unable to see as Ant-Man shrinks and grows right under Zemo's chin once again. Zemo, barely conscious, hits a button on his shirt and disappears.

A few hours later.

"That didn't go as planned."

"No, Zemo, it didn't. It could have been worse if the Fixer hadn't provided us with those teleportation devices. We should do this again. When we have planned it better."

Zemo and the Red Skull make a toast to the Skull's last words.
