#75 APRIL Year 4 |
|
One has seen his lover killed. One grew up on the streets, and knows full well the pain of solitude. One was taken from his simple, peaceful life in the ocean and changed - not necessarily for the better. And one has seen the future, and knows it to be lacking. They are heroes who will address the crime that too many others will not. They may not know legal from illegal, but they know right from wrong. They are X-FORCE!
"In The Spotlight"
What Has Gone Before: X-Force has resolved to keep out from under Cable's shadow... but will they be able to handle the light?
TEXT GUIDE: BLACK: story. BLUE: editor's note. RED: soundtrack.
Soundtrack: Each issue I'll be suggesting a particular song that I feel reflects the mood of an individual story, and tossing out lyrics for those of you who might not own a particular album.
For this issue, it's Joe Satriani's "Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness," from the album The Extremist. This means no cool snippets of song lyrics, because it's an instrumental piece. But you'll live, I'm sure.
Nathan Dayspring Askani'son Summers couldn't suppress a chuckle.
X-Force - Meltdown, Shatterstar, and Serendipity (Bill had stayed home) - had offered to walk him to the closest T* station, but they never got more then three steps out of their door before the flashbulbs started popping, and microphones were shoved at them.
[* T is an abbreviation for MBTA, or Metropolitan Boston Area Transit (I think) - Boston's public subway system. -Shawn]
It was fairly amusing, really. Cable had always tried to keep his team out of the public eye, but this... well, it was to be expected someday, wasn't it?
"And it is time that we, as human beings, stop spending so much time and concern on the genes of others.
"In this time of marvels, we have become more and more accustomed to the presence of superpowered beings. We have seen men and women exposed to cosmic radiation and gain fantastic powers, and they are called heroes. But the children who gain such powers through no means other than their own birthright are scorned and hunted.
"This cannot be allowed to continue! This monstrous double standard is unfair to all of us. It is time to put away our hatred and mistrust. It is time to accept that mutants are human beings, gifted with special powers far beyond the means of ordinary men and women. But they are still human."
